What is The Haunted Hotel?

The Haunted Hotel is a writer & illustrator’s showcase of short stories and drawings that are dark in nature, macabre, or horror themed that takes place in the middle of fall, somewhere in New England, at the Thornewood Hotel.

The Thornewood Hotel is a seven story hotel, complete with attic and basement, built in the 1800s. There are 666 rooms throughout and rumor is, there’s a lot of strange things that happen there.

When you think of a haunted hotel what do you think of? Personally, I think of The Shining, ghosts or spirits haunting rooms, ugly wallpaper, looming mansions, hidden rooms and staircases, creepy hallways, found keys, rattling door knobs, inexplicable sounds, elevators full of blood, items moving around the room, found things, local legends, midnight rendezvous, attics and basements, ghastly murders, possessed bellhops, and more!

You get the picture. Basically, anything related to a hotel that is spooky goes. All writers are welcome. All genres are welcome.

Due to time restraints, I AM ONLY TAKING THE FIRST 25 PEOPLE TO SIGN UP.  SIGN UPS ARE CLOSED.

Stories are due October 1, 2016.

How does this work?

The Haunted Hotel is a writer & illustrator’s showcase of short stories and drawings that are dark in nature, macabre, or horror themed that takes place in the middle of fall, somewhere in New England, at the Thornewood Hotel.

Your story should take place at the Thornewood Hotel, in the fall, somewhere in New England. It is a seven story hotel, complete with attic and basement, built in the 1800s. There are 666 rooms total.

You can either write about the hotel itself, the grounds, a specific room. etc. Your story fits as long as your story takes place at this hotel, at any point in time. First come, first serve on room number! There are no rules other than you must turn your story in on time and your word count should be around 1000 to 4000 words. Or, if you’re an artist, draw/paint/etc. something along these guidelines as well.

For the month of October, each day up until Halloween, I will feature your short stories on my personal site (jolenehaley.com). I will also feature bio and author pic if you include them.
